L. Hoyt Harris, Sr. (1935-2009) first began his electrical contracting career as an estimator with Bagby Elevator and Electric Company (BEEC) back in 1956. Working as an estimator from 8 to 5, Hoyt attended classes at the University of Alabama in Birmingham at night. His estimating skills far exceeded his employer's expectations and by 1960, Hoyt was an intregal part of Bagby's estimating department.

Being one of the largest Union Electrical Contracting firms in the country, Bagby Electric saw the opportunity to advance into the fast approaching "Space and Rocket Industry".

In 1961, Hoyt was sent to Huntsville, Alabama to pursue contracts with the National Aeronautic & Space Administration (NASA) located at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) on Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. (Or as the old timers called it: "The Bullet Factory").

In 1965, Hoyt became Vice President of Bagby Elevator & Electric Company with major electrical contract awards throughout the United States.

With the slow demise of contracting unions (especially in the South), Hoyt saw the opportunity to live up to his life long dream: owning his own company.

On May 1, 1976, Hoyt "Big Daddy" Harris put his dream into motion by founding "HOYT HARRIS, INC.". The rest as they say, is history.

Hoyt passed away on September 17, 2009 at the age of 74. But before passing, he saw his dream, built his dream, and lived his dream.

Today, Hoyt's son Len owns and operates the company. And with his wife Renee by his side, they continue to offer the same high quality service and client satisfaction that Hoyt Harris, Inc. has long been known for.
